New models Sony Xperia receive GLONASS connectivity

Sony includes smartphone models for future support GLONASS - Russian alternative to the American GPS system.

Some models supported are the new Sony Xperia and Xperia S Ion. They are also added several models of current generation smartphones such as the Xperia arc, Xperia arc S, Xperia ray neo Xperia, Xperia pro, Xperia PLAY, active Xperia Xperia Live with Walkman.

Sony has revealed that all these models have received support for GLONASS navigation network since its launch.

For those who do not already know, GLONASS global positioning network name is put into operation and held by Russia, which is intended as an alternative and fallback need for American GPS network.

While GPS tracking service functionality is provided by means of 31 satellites, GLONASS network is currently limited to only 24 satellites. The good part is that both network-compatible devices can use these satellites together, thus establishing the location and time required for increasing the chances of getting signal in difficult areas near tall buildings.

Sony is not the only company to introduce GLONASS and GPS connectivity for mobile offer. Apple, Samsung, Nokia and Motorola mobile phones offers that include this functionality, a number that will certainly grow in the future.
